What should I expect?

You may decide to get in touch for the first time over the phone or via email. To follow on from this, Anna will suggest a brief phone conversation where you can ask questions, explain what you are looking for and check practicalities such as available sessions and cost.

You may then agree to meet for an initial, no obligation session at her private practice in either South Chailey or Hove.

This first session will give her a chance to explore a little more into the situation you find yourself in and why you are looking for support. It is also an opportunity for you to decide if you feel comfortable with Anna and would like to continue working with her.

You don’t need to prepare for these sessions. Rather, come with a sense of curiosity and compassion for yourself; two of the most important qualities you can bring to therapy.

How often will we meet?

If you do decide to continue after your first session, you would agree a time to meet with Anna on a weekly basis. Each session will take 50 minutes.

What you choose to focus on in each session is always under your control. Anna will work with you collaboratively, creatively and responsively, working with whatever comes up for you in the moment.

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on what you’d like to work through, and the pace we choose to work at. Your needs are individual, and there is no set number of sessions to take.

However, you and Anna will regularly review your progress and check what you are getting from the work.

What is Humanistic therapy?

It’s a method of therapy that concentrates specifically on your individual needs, and your potential for growth.

One of the primary techniques in this method is reflection, which your therapist will use to guide you. It’s about encouraging you to trust yourself, to be open to new experiences, and to develop an ability to evaluate yourself fairly.

What is Gestalt therapy?

This is about taking a positive approach to what it is to be human, including acknowledging and embracing the realities of joy and pain.

Gestalt may be experienced as a more 'practical' approach, as a session will focus on what is happening during the process of therapy. You’ll focus on your immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviours – leading to a better awareness of your mind, spirit and body.
